Landing in Vancouver on the 6th. When does my number actually go live?

I bought the plan today and put my travel date as the 6th. Will it start now and eat into my month?

It doesn't start now. Your number goes live 48 hours before your travel date, so on the 4th, and your plan runs from there.
If your trip were today or within two days, it would go live 1–2 hours after paying instead.
