Does your phone support eSIM?

Two things must be true: the phone is unlocked (not tied to one operator), and it supports eSIM. To check:

• Dial *#06#. If your phone shows an EID number, it has an eSIM.
• Look in your mobile or cellular settings for an option to add an eSIM or a mobile plan.

How do you install a prepaid eSIM before you fly?

• Install at home, on Wi-Fi. Open the email on a laptop or another screen, so you can scan the code with your phone.
• Name the line. Label it "US" so you can tell your two lines apart.
• Keep the eSIM installed. Don't delete it from your settings: an eSIM can't always be reinstalled from the same QR code.

When you land

Switch the US line on and choose it for mobile data. If you don't want your Indian line using data abroad, turn data roaming off for it. Whether your Indian number still gets calls and SMS in the USA depends on its roaming settings.
